Harmonix talks competition, Wii Music
A portion of a GameDaily interview with Alex Rigopulos, CEO of Harmonix…
BIZ: From a “battle of the bands” standpoint, obviously you’re going up against your former creation, so how do you feel about how the Rock Band brand stacks up against Guitar Hero now?
AR: We feel great about it. When we set off to build Rock Band we wanted to take the genre in a very different direction, focus on co-op play and authenticity, and focus to the greatest degree possible on the music itself, and I feel we’ve done that successfully, and I especially feel that’s coming to fruition now in Rock Band 2 with our platform strategy. By holiday of this year we’ll have 500 songs available for play on the platform “... [Read More]

TV Show King - review
A portion of an EDGE review…
Along with the slick but nondescript design of the sets and host, with surrogate charm lent by the use of your own Miis for avatars, TV Show King is just too flimsy and capricious to distract a group of players for long.

Tomb Raider Underworld has QTEs
I am not too sure how I feel about quick-time-events in gaming. They do provide a much more cinematic experience, but I always feel like I miss out on the action. I am so nervous that I will miss an input…that I don’t keep up with what’s going on with the characters. I can’t think of a game that I have really liked the QTE segments, but I know there have been some. I have to say, I am a bit let-down to hear that they are in Underworld.

Guitar Hero: World Tour rumored set-list is rumor
All day long, I have been seeing Activision and Red Octane tell us that the rumored set-list posted up yesterday is pure fake, but they never really said anything other than that. Finally, Game Informer gets a bit more information out of them…
We spoke with a representative who confirmed that, while some of those songs are indeed in the game (Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher,” for one), the bulk of it is wishful thinking and pure speculation.
Now that’s a company statement I believe. Why confirm that some of the list is fake and some is true…unless that’s really the case?!

Miyamoto - I like health/mental improvement games, but I`m best at traditional games
“As game designers, the trend is often for concentrating on pushing graphics, or other capabilities, or network features in new games. But I like to think that game designers would be better off trying to think about things such as health or mental improvement, rather than technology itself. Making these ‘traditional’ games is what I am best at. Because games of that nature take upwards of two or three years to make, we always have to keep the teams working on those projects going. At any given time, the team could be five to ten people, or it could be 50-plus. People are always switching in and out of those teams. They are all working on more Mario, Zelda and Pikmin projects. And they all work in close proximity to me, so I can keep a good eye on them.” -... [Read More]
