Future-published Nintendo Power cuts back on ads as promised, but features many more ads than ˜old` Nintendo-published Nintendo Power
Future Publishing has taken over all duties on the Nintendo Power magazine. Nintendo themselves used to publish the magazine, but those days are long gone. Back in December, Nintendo Power was overflowing with ads, but Chris Slate (EiC) promised that ads would be cut back as time continued on. December was a big promotion month, which explained the ads. Take a look at three sets of figures…one for Nintendo Power in Dec, Nintendo Power’s current issue (June), and Nintendo-published Nintendo Power from June 2007.

Ads have gone down, as promised…but they are still up a sizeable amount from when Nintendo themselves handled publishing. Ads are such a tough business to deal with, this I know first-hand. You want to keep working on the thing you love, but there comes a time where the monetary flow has to best what your publication eats up every month. No one out there likes ads…I don’t enjoy them, and I am sure the entire staff of Nintendo Power isn’t too fond of them either. Necessary evil is a term that comes to mind. The good news is that the magazine did indeed make good on its promise.
I think the best part is that the ‘new’ Nintendo Power is a lot easier to read, and more well planned out. I actually look forward to each issue now!
