WiiWare devs talk about WiiWare details, Wii shovelware
A portion of a Next-Gen interview with Frontier founder David Braben, Telltale Games design director Dave Grossman, and Mastiff head Bill Swartz…
NG: Was the size cap on WiiWare games or the Wii`s memory limitation a development issue?
Braben: No, not really. I mean to be honest, every single game we`ve ever done has had size limits and the issue is not specifically the size limits. If you think back to Elite and 22k or whatever it was, you know on one of those 2k machines, the constraints now are way, way less. And the other point is the game has still got to run within the memory of a machine. What you`re actually talking about is the medium size limit and since everything can be stored and compressed, that`s much less of an... [Read More]

Real musician Vs. Rock Band - defeated by peripherals
First off, I realize that this video features the PS3 version of Rock Band. That’s just fine by me, seeing that Wii owners will have Rock Band soon enough. Ignore the system that is featured, and focus on the content of the video. I have heard the very complaint in this video a thousand times over. It’s a bit funny, but sad at the same time!

Death of a Plumber - a `mortography`
I wanted to make sure I shared this with you guys before the weekend closed out. Reader Floorcat put this video project for his spring ‘08 media projects course. We’ve all died in various Super Mario games, but I never really took it seriously until this piece! I’m telling you, music can make a world of difference.

Future-published Nintendo Power cuts back on ads as promised, but features many more ads than ˜old` Nintendo-published Nintendo Power
Future Publishing has taken over all duties on the Nintendo Power magazine. Nintendo themselves used to publish the magazine, but those days are long gone. Back in December, Nintendo Power was overflowing with ads, but Chris Slate (EiC) promised that ads would be cut back as time continued on. December was a big promotion month, which explained the ads. Take a look at three sets of figures…one for Nintendo Power in Dec, Nintendo Power’s current issue (June), and Nintendo-published Nintendo Power from June 2007.

Everyone is confused about tomorrow`s WiiWare launch list
It seems like everywhere you look, there is a different list of WiiWare titles coming out. I am so confused that my head is spinning. I would like to say that, above all other lists, I trust the leaked list/press release that we posted yesterday. There leaks have been 100% spot-on for Virtual Console releases, so I’m not ready to doubt a leak from the same source.
This list does bring up a few questions though. Nintendo’s own Nintendo Channel features a video that dates Dr. Mario for May 12th. You clearly see someone going to download the title, and the date marked on the screen is May 12th. There are other titles where developers promised day-one arrivals, such as Konami’s Critter Round-up.... [Read More]

Wii Fit makes for perfect rehabilitation with stroke victims, and more
We’ve already heard about how good the Wii can be in helping to heal all sorts of patients. Now, Wii Fit is starting to garner that same praise. According to Karen Johnson, Wii Fit is a great tool for those that have suffered from a stroke. It’s the real-time feedback and balance meters that can really help out in situations like these. The help doesn’t stop with stroke victims, though. Mrs. Johnson also said that great strides can be made with people that have Cerebral Palsy, and Hemiplegia. You can read a lot more of her findings at this blog.

Just what videos are available on the Nintendo Channel?
In our last podcast, we discussed the Nintendo Channel to some pretty great lengths. I happen to really like the videos such as the Miyamoto interview, and WiiWare explanation. I am hoping to see more content like that pop up. Other than those two videos, what else does the channel have to offer? I am sure you have snooped around and watched some footage, but did you look to see all that was available? Below is a list of ever single video on the service, as of right now. Let’s hope that this collection gets bigger every week, instead of every month.
